Classmates. Complete guide

Let parents see their child's classmates and teachers, and choose which details about the children stay hidden.

Written by Marcel Bragari

The Classmates module shows parents, in the mobile app, the other children in their child's groups and the groups' teachers. Parents can recognise their child's classmates and write directly to a teacher.

For classmates, the app shows only the name, profile picture and date of birth. The school can hide any of them, and no other personal information (address, phone, family details) is shown. The module works together with Student Groups and needs no setup beyond turning it on and choosing the privacy settings.

1. How do I turn the Classmates module on or off?

Center Management › Kinderpedia Modules

In the left menu, open Center Management and click Kinderpedia Modules. Type Classmates in the search field. The switch at the bottom of the card turns the module on or off. When it's green and shows Active, parents see their child's classmates in the app.

Click View details to open the module window. The Overview tab briefly describes the module. On the right you see Status, Category (Communication), Designed for and Plan (From Essentials).

Note! If the school wants the list of classmates to stay fully private, turn the module off. Parents then no longer see how many or which children are in their child's class.

2. How do I choose what parents see about the children?

Kinderpedia Modules › Classmates › Settings

On the module card, click Settings (or open View details and the Settings tab). There are three switches:

  • Hide children profile picture: classmates' profile pictures aren't shown in the parent app. A grey avatar appears instead;

  • Keep the full names of children private: classmates' names appear with the first name and the initial of the surname only (for example “Ioana A.”);

  • Hide children sensitive data: information such as the date of birth or gender is hidden.

Turn on the switches for the information you want to hide and click Save. The settings apply to all parents in the school.

Tip: if you're not sure, leave all three switches on. Parents then see only the first name and the initial of classmates, which is enough to recognise them without exposing other data.

3. What does the parent see in the app?

Kinderpedia app (parent) › ☰ › My Class

In the parent app, open the ☰ menu at the top left and choose My Class. At the top you see the selected child, with their class and school. If you have several children, choose the child from the arrow on the right.

The Classmates tab shows the classmates grouped by each group the child belongs to, including optional groups (for example “Optional Dans” and “Clasa a XI-a”). Your own child also appears in the list.

In the image above all three hiding options are on: classmates appear with their first name and initial, without a photo.

4. How does a parent write to a teacher from My Class?

Kinderpedia app (parent) › ☰ › My Class › teachers

The teachers tab shows the teachers of the child's class, with their full name and photo. Next to each teacher there's a green chat icon. Tap it to open a Live Chat conversation with that teacher, then type your message at the bottom, in the Message field.
