Child Development. Complete guide

Set up templates, add observations and evaluations, generate progress reports and follow the evaluation history.

Written by Marcel Bragari

The Child Development module helps you follow each child's development based on a template: areas of development (categories), subcategories and lessons, evaluated with the criteria you choose. From the evaluations you generate PDF reports, which you publish for parents.

We recommend following the steps in order: first the template (from the library or created from scratch) and its settings, then the evaluations, and finally the reports.

Contents

1. How do I open the Child Development module?

In the left menu, click Child Development. A submenu with four pages opens:

  • Templates: the institution's templates and the template libraries;

  • Progress and Plan: evaluating children on lessons;

  • Reports: progress reports generated from the evaluations;

  • Evaluation history: all evaluations added, with author and date.

2. How do I use a template from the Public Library?

Child Development › Templates › Public Library

The Templates page has four tabs: My Templates (the ones your institution uses), Private Library, Public Library (ready-made templates, for example EYFS, Fisa Romaneasca or OCEPE) and Archived templates. Each card shows the age range, the number of lessons, the areas of development and the evaluation criteria.

The Public Library tab

Click the three dots on the template card. Choose View to see the content before you use it, or Clone to copy it straight into My Templates.

The View and Clone options

The Template Content page shows the areas of development, the number of lessons and of evaluation terms. If the template suits you, click Use this template.

The Use this template button

Tip: once copied, the template is yours: you can edit it (lessons, criteria, terms) without changing the original in the library.

3. How do I create a new template?

Child Development › Templates › New template

Click the green New template button at the top right.

The New template button

The template setup opens, with five steps on the left: Template Details, Age Range, Evaluation Terms, Evaluation Criteria and PDF Report. Each step is explained in the next section.

4. How do I set up a template's settings?

Child Development › Templates › ⋮ › Edit › Template Settings

For an existing template, click the three dots on the card, choose Edit and open the Template Settings tab. For a new template, the settings open directly.

Note! When you move from one step to another (with Next or by clicking a step on the left), the changes in the current step are saved automatically.

Step 1: Template Details

  • Template Name and Short Name (SKU), at most 3 characters;

  • Description;

  • Visible for: the groups/classes that can use the template (by default All Groups);

  • Color and Subcategories depth level: how many levels the template has between the area of development and the lesson. On the right you see an example of the structure;

  • Progress visible to parents: when it's on, parents see the evaluations in real time.

Step 1, Template Details

Step 2: Age Range

Turn on Levels / Ages ranges if you want to assign lessons to age ranges, then add them with + Add new age range. This step is optional.

Step 2, Age Range

Step 3: Evaluation Terms

Turn on Evaluation terms if evaluations are done in fixed periods of the year. With this option on, evaluations can only be entered for the defined terms; without it, you can evaluate at any time.

With + Add school interval you add the school year, and with + Add new term you add the terms of that year. The pencil next to a term edits it.

Step 3, Evaluation Terms

Step 4: Evaluation Criteria

  • Evaluation Criteria: define the criteria (for example Exceeding, Excellent, Good), each with a Short Name, Weight and Color. The Preview column shows how the criterion will look in the table. Without criteria, evaluations are text only. Add criteria with + Add new criterion.

The evaluation criteria
  • Group criteria: create groups of criteria with + Add new group, give them a Group name and choose the criteria in the group. Then choose, for each lesson or category, which group of criteria it uses (see section 5).

  • Expected Evaluation: define the evaluation you expect for each evaluation term.

Grouping criteria

Step 5: PDF Report

Turn on Customize Report to add a header image with your institution's branding to the PDF report. Click Finish.

Step 5, PDF Report
